Running around, toddler gymnastics or playing soccer with mom or dad. A day of a child is full of exercises. Some may think exercise weakens the immune system, but that is not true. In fact, regular exercise supports the immune system and prepares your child’s body for the germs that it might encounter.
When your child is exercising, cell turnover increases, stimulating the production of important immune cells. These immune cells play a crucial role in protecting your child from viruses and bacteria.
Incentivise exercise with these entertaining activities
Daily exercise with your child provides a variety of health benefits, also for you as a parent! While it might sound difficult to exercise every day, it does not have to be. The following four entertaining and laidback activities can be easily implemented in your daily routine.
- A short walk around the block. There are many ways to make it more joyful, like collecting pebbles or leaves, picking flowers, spotting insects or playing a classic game of “I spy”.
- Play a game of tag with your toddler. Playing a game of tag is not only amusing, it also makes for a good running exercise (for the both of you ;)).
- Go to the playground. The playground is the perfect spot for exercise! Your child can climb, go for a swing or go down the slide.
- Dance together. Put on some music and work those hips! Aside from dancing being an entertaining exercise, listening to music supports cognitive development. Win-win!
